Roads
The SRPMIC Roads Section is a professional team dedicated to enhancing transportation safety and quality of life by supporting the core values of the Community. Our goal is to provide excellent service and safe means of transportation, while maximizing Community resources in the planning, design, construction, maintenance and preservation of tribal roadways.
Transportation Planning
Long Range Transportation Plan
The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is a 20-year planning study of the Community’s transportation system. It contains a prioritized list of needed road improvements to accommodate Community growth and quality of life goals, road preservation and reconstruction, public transit, and non-motorized paths and trails.

Transportation Safety Plan
SRPMIC is committed to reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries and improving the overall safety of the transportation system. The Transportation Safety Plan is a data driven resource to establish critical safety emphasis areas, develop strategies, and identify projects to improve transportation safety for the Community, its people and visitors. Projects
Projects are developed from the prioritized list of transportation needs identified in the planning stage and approved by Council. Once funding is identified, projects are scheduled for design and construction. Below are projects currently under way.

Pima Road
Pima Road from McDowell to north of the Arizona Canal is being widened to 4-lane with a landscaped median. The project includes upgrading each major intersection traffic signal, improving street lighting, adding bike lanes, and improving the overall flow of traffic along the corridor. The project also includes installation of a large diameter storm drain pipe from Thomas to the Salt River. The project has local, regional, and federal funding partners. Please visit the project website at www.pimaroadimprovements.com.

McKellips Road
The Maricopa County Department of Transportation is improving McKellips from the Loop 101 to Alma School. The project includes roadway reconstruction, curb, gutter, sidewalk, raised median and other safety improvements to support regional traffic.

Pave Dirt Roads
The Community is working to obtain right of way along dirt roads to construct waterlines, fire hydrants, and paved road. This helps to improve air quality, provide a smoother driving surface, and eliminate muddy, slippery roads for residents.
Projects under construction include Vista from Alma School to Extension, Beverly from Vista to Jackrabbit, Westwood from Vista to Jackrabbit, Jackrabbit from Beverly to the Canal Bank Rd, Highland from Dobson to Longmore, Westwood from Thomas to Earll, and Earll from Westwood to Extension. Projects under design include Indian School, Montecito, 126th St and Stapley in the Bunnyville area. Additional projects underway are Palm from Westwood to Extension, Westwood from Palm to Oak, Osborn from Westwood to Extension, Jackrabbit from Dobson to Alma School, Clarendon from 92nd St to Dobson, Palm from Date to SR87, Date from Oak to Virginia, and Palm from Horne to Stapley

New Subdivision Roads
The Community is working with landowners to obtain right of way and pave subdivision streets on their land. This creates an organized network of roads and water services for existing and future homes.
Projects under construction include 106th Way near Westwood and Earll and Fairmount Circle west of Extension. Projects under design include Ce:cki Vo:g east of Dobson, Jackrabbit Circle north of Jackrabbit Road, and Fraser from Xma Uunye to Palm.

Sidewalks
The Community will be installing a new sidewalk, streetlights and bus stop benches on the west side of Mesa Drive from Indian School to the AZ Canal and the north side of Camelback from Center to Mesa Drive.

Curry Road
Project to design and ultimately construct a new four-lane roadway on Curry Road east of McClintock. The project is part of the backbone infrastructure within Section 12 to support economic development opportunities.

Via de Ventura Reconstruction
The pavement on Via de Ventura from Pima Road to the Loop 101 is in poor condition. The project will reconstruct the pavement, address drainage, as well as add bike lanes, raised landscaped medians, and street lighting.

Dobson Road Bridge over Salt River
Project to design and construct a new six-lane roadway on Dobson from the Loop 202 to McKellips including a new bridge crossing over the Salt River. The project will accommodate bicycle and pedestrian travel as well as vehicular movements. The improvements include curb and gutter, sidewalk, bike lanes, raised landscaped median, street lighting, two signalized intersections, bridge structure, and drainage infrastructure. The project will improve connectivity and circulation to nearby employment, shopping, entertainment, and recreation destinations. The Community would like to expand its economic development opportunities along the north side of the Salt River to support jobs and provide long-term financial stability.
Road Maintenance
Public Works Roads Section maintains roughly 153 miles of roadways on the Community. A variety of programs are used to help keep our roads in the best possible condition and extend the service life.

Road Grading: Generally, unpaved roads do not have a public right of way. There are roughly 47 miles of unpaved roads on the Community. Public Works provides services to grade dirt roads. Asphalt millings can be placed on qualifying roads to help with dust and mud.

Street Sweeping: There are roughly 105 miles of paved roads on the Community. Neighborhood streets are swept on a monthly basis. Public commercial streets are also swept on a routine basis.

Street Lighting: Most of the street lighting on SRPMIC is operated and maintained by the Salt River Project (SRP), but some fall under the Community’s responsibility. Contact Public Works to report problems or outages. Requests for new street lighting will be evaluated and are subject to available funding.

Pavement Repair and Preservation: A variety of programs are used to keep paved roads in the best possible condition and provide a long service life. The Roads Section performs crack sealing, road sealing, patching, restriping, overlays, and other various services to maintain approximately 105 miles of paved BIA and Tribal roads. The remaining 33 miles of paved roads are maintained by ADOT (state) or MCDOT (county).

Roadway Landscaping: In an effort to beautify the Community, keep the transportation network safe, and provide clear visibility, Public Works maintains sidewalks, trims trees and controls weeds along Community roadways. They also maintain the high aesthetic character on major roadways within the commercial corridor.
Other Services: The Roads Section also manages road drainage, street signage, and barricading for events or work zones.
