The SRPMIC Roads Section is a professional team dedicated to enhancing transportation safety and quality of life by supporting the core values of the Community. Our goal is to provide excellent service and safe means of transportation, while maximizing Community resources in the planning, design, construction, maintenance and preservation of tribal roadways.

Long Range Transportation Plan
The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is a 20-year planning study of the Community’s transportation system. It contains a prioritized list of needed road improvements to accommodate Community growth and quality of life goals, road preservation and reconstruction, public transit, and non-motorized paths and trails.

Transportation Safety Plan
SRPMIC is committed to reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries and improving the overall safety of the transportation system. As part of an ongoing effort to make transportation safety improvements, SRPMIC is developing a Transportation Safety Plan with input from several safety partners. The plan is intended to outline existing programs and policies, as well as identify issues and procedures or projects that can be implemented to further improve transportation safety for the Community, its people and visitors. Projects
Projects are developed from the prioritized list of transportation needs identified in the planning stage and approved by Council. Once funding is identified, projects are scheduled for design and construction. Below are projects currently under way.

Clarendon Avenue and Weldon Avenue
The existing gravel roads located east of Center Street serve agriculture and low density residential. The roads will be improved to a paved rural local with one lane in each direction. The project includes new right of way acquisition, grading, drainage, water line, and paving. Benefits include improved roadway alignment, access, dust control and enhanced safety. Project will be constructed summer 2018. Contact Pam Tracy with Public Works.

McDonald Subdivision and Palm Lane New Construction
The existing gravel road serves agriculture and a low density residential subdivision. The road will be improved to a paved rural local with one lane in each direction. The project includes new right of way acquisition, grading, drainage, water line, and paving. Benefits include improved roadway alignment, access, dust control and enhanced safety. Virginia Avenue and Washington Subdivision in Lehi
Double chip seal pavement surface. Project is in the design phase. Contact Pam Tracy with Public Works.

Monte Vista Subdivision
The existing gravel road serves agriculture and low density residential. The road will be improved to a paved rural local with one lane in each direction. The project includes new right of way acquisition, grading, drainage, water line, and paving. Benefits include improved roadway alignment, access, dust control and enhanced safety. Salt River Fields Loop Road Widening (Hummingbird Lane)
The southern portion of the Salt River Fields loop road will be widened to an urban major collector with one lane in each direction and a center two-way left turn lane. Project is under construction. Contact Deb Hassinan with Public Works.

Talking Stick District Overlay
Overlay on Talking Stick Way, Dobson Road, and Via de Ventura located east of the Loop 101 Pima Freeway. Project is in the design phase. Construction anticipated spring 2019. Contact Rick McFarlin with Public Works.

Pima Road (Chaparral to Krail)
Pima Road serves as the boundary between the Community and the City of Scottsdale. The project is to widen the road to an urban minor arterial with two lanes in each direction and a raised landscaped median. The project is part of MAG’s ALCP and has multiple funding partners. Gilbert Road Bridge
Project to construct new all-weather Salt River bridge crossing with two lanes in each direction. This existing bridge is inadequate and structurally insufficient. The improvement will also provide adequate road capacity to accommodate regional population and employment growth. The project is being done by MCDOT and is in the design phase.

McKellips Road
Improve roadway with curb, gutter, sidewalk, raised median and other safety improvements to support regional traffic. The project is being done by MCDOT and is in the design phase.
Road Maintenance
Public Works Roads Section maintains roughly 140 miles of roadways on the Community. A variety of programs are used to help keep our roads in the best possible condition and extend the service life.

Road Grading:Generally, unpaved roads do not have a public roadway easement. There are roughly 45 miles of unpaved roads on the Community. Of these, only 30 miles are graded on a routine basis. Public Works does not accept any new requests to grade dirt roads and cannot place material (such as gravel) on dirt roads. Click on the zones below to view the roads graded by Public Works.

Street Sweeping:There are roughly 100 miles of paved roads on the Community. Neighborhood streets are swept on a monthly basis. Public commercial streets are also swept on a routine basis.

Street Lighting: Most of the street lighting on SRPMIC is operated and maintained by the Salt River Project (SRP), but some fall under the Community’s responsibility. Contact Public Works to report problems or outages. Requests for new street lighting will be evaluated and are subject to available funding.

Pavement Repair and Preservation: A variety of programs are used to keep paved roads in the best possible condition and provide a long service life. The Roads Section performs crack sealing, road sealing, patching, restriping, overlays, and other various services to maintain approximately 100 miles of paved BIA and Tribal roads. The remaining 45 miles of paved roads are maintained by ADOT (state), MCDOT (county), or the City of Scottsdale.

Roadside Landscape and Weed Control: Public Works maintains the roadside to minimize weeds and keep a clear line of sight at intersections.
Other Services: The Roads Section also manages road drainage, street signage, and barricading for events or work zones. | ||
