Report a Missing Person
- Contact the police agency where the person was last seen.
- If the police agency turns you away, contact SRPD. SRPD will assist or act as a liaison between agencies, especially if the missing person resides in SRP-MIC.
There are many misconceptions about making a missing person police report.
- There is no waiting period. A missing person report can be made at any time.
- A missing person report can be made by anyone, not just a family member
Things to consider when making a missing person report.
- Contact friends and family first, to ensure there was not a miscommunication, a traffic delay, or other reason for the person’s disappearance. Also, check hospitals and local jails. Make every attempt (cellphone, social media, text and even email) to contact the missing person, before making a police report.
- For missing adults, police agencies will verify the person’s well-being. Information about their whereabouts will not be shared.
- For prolonged missing person cases, family should be prepared to provide additional details, such as DNA, dental records, photographs, names of friends and relatives, and employers.
- Be prepared to provide physical characteristics for identifying a person (i.e. tattoos, scars, hair and eye color, height and weight).
