Salt River Community Children’s Foundation

With nearly half of the population of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community under the age of 18, the needs of children and youth are clearly a priority for the Community. Believing that all children and youth deserve to have the support of their Community, on February 19, 2003, at the urging of Community members, the Tribal Council created the Children’s Foundation. The Children’s Foundation makes contributions to tax-exempt organizations that provide assistance or preventative programs and services for Community children and youth. The Foundation supports organizations that qualify under Section 7871 (a) (1) (A, B, & C) or under Section 501 (C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Children’s Foundation receives private and public contributions and depends upon the donations received from events, including an annual golf tournament at Talking Stick Golf Club, tribal employee payroll deductions, and the generous support of private individuals, businesses and corporations. Salt River Community Housing Division

The Housing Division operates under Salt River Ordinance #237-98 and is led by a Community Council appointed Board of Directors. This Board advises the Housing Division’s policies, procedures, rental homes, and related services. This Community non-profit entity is funded by a combination of rents collected from rental homes, federal subsidies, and Community support.

The Housing Division inherited the former Housing Authority and Tribal Housing Program and services. The Housing Division’s purpose is now to promote the development of an adequate supply of affordable, well constructed, modern, energy-efficient, healthful, and culturally relevant homes and related services with the Community. The Housing Division now oversees 242 rental homes, 30 Mutual Help Homes, manages over 100 home loans for the Community, and provides different training and outreach services for residents and their families. Some of the training and outreach services Housing provides are budgeting, home care and maintenance, outreach and education on financial responsibility, and services such as Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program, home insurance with AMERIND, and assist with block watch and related services. Salt River Financial Services Institution

Salt River Financial Services Institution (SRFSI) is the Community’s newest non-profit enterprise with the focus of bringing lending, financial services, and education to the members of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. This organization was created by ordinance #SRO-311-06 on April 5, 2006 and is led by a Board of Directors consisting of six Community members, one banking representative, and three non-voting Community government staff members. SRFSI was founded to bring financing to the people of the SRPMIC with customer service, financial and business coaching, and the ability to keep any interest and fees in the Community.
