Where is the Salt River Department of Corrections (SRDOC) located?

How large is the facility?

78,000 sq. feet

How many detainees can DOC hold?

Approximately 186

Do detainees have medical services?

Yes, detainee medical concerns are handled 24 hours a day.

When is SRDOC open for business?

The SRDOC lobby is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8am to 4pm excluding holidays.

Fingerprinting services are available on Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 11am.

What do I need to know about Visitation?

Non-contact visitation is held on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.  Detainees are eligible for 2 visits per week provided they are not on disciplinary restriction.  The hours of visitation is as follows:

  • Wednesday 10am to 3pm
  • Saturday and Sunday 9am to 12 noon and 5pm to 7pm

At the discretion of the visitation officer, visitors may be denied due to inappropriate attire which may include but is not limited to:

  • Extremely short skirts and shorts
  • transparent clothing
  • low cut tops
  • sleeveless tops
  • clothing promoting alcohol, drugs, sex

May children visit?

Persons under the age of 18 may visit if accompanied by an adult.

What can I bring to visitation?

Visitors are not allowed to bring any personal items into the visitation room.  It is suggested that personal belongings be left in your vehicle, however, lockers are available for storing your items during the visit.  Cell phones, electronic devices, firearms/weapons, tobacco, alcohol, food, and beverages are strictly prohibited. If any person is found to have brought contraband into the facility may have their visitation privileges suspended, revoked or face criminal prosecution.  All persons are subject to search before entering visitation rooms.

Can I call someone in jail?

No, detainees are not able to receive any phone calls while in the facility nor will messages be given to detainees.  In the event of an emergency, family shall contact the Community Crisis Team who will then coordinate appropriate notification.

Phones located in the day rooms are available for detainees to make collect calls or use a phone card to call family and friends.

How much do detainee phone cards cost?

Each phone card costs $10.00.

How does a detainee purchase a phone card?

Friends and family members must purchase phone cards for detainees in custody.  Phone cards are available for purchase during visitation days and times.  The price of a card is $10.00 with a limit of 5 cards per visitation day per detainee.  Purchases must be made using a debit or credit card.  SRDOC will not accept cash or money orders for phone cards.

How many minutes do the phone cards have?

Each phone card allows the detainee to talk for approximately 60 minutes.

When is court?

Initial appearances (first court appearance following an arrest) are held Monday thru Friday excluding holidays at 3:30pm for adults and at 11:00am on weekends and holidays.  Juvenile initial appearances are held at 10:00am every day.

Court times and appearances are at the discretion of Community Court and may change.  Initial appearances are open to the public at the appropriate court room in the Court House located at the north east corner of Longmore and Osborn.

How can detainees receive commissary?

Detainee commissary can be purchased biweekly through Keefe Group by calling 1-800-546-6283 or online at www.azcountypackages.com. There is a $40.00 limit on commissary purchases. You can also pick up an order form from the SRDOC lobby that can be mailed in.

Can I drop off property for a detainee?

No. Detainees cannot receive property from the general public. However, approved stationary, books and tennis shoes from a retailer or online business may be sent to detainees.

SRDOC will NOT accept property delivered by any ride share or car service such as Uber, Door Dash, Postmates, etc.

Can I tour the facility?

SRDOC does not offer facility tours to the general public.

Who do I call for information about detainees or general information?

Call our lobby at (480) 362-7299, the lobby officer will direct you to the appropriate individual to answer your question.

Can I file a citizen complaint at SRDOC?

Yes, you may obtain a citizen complaint form in the SRDOC lobby which can be returned in person or mailed back to the department.

Who do I speak to when making a complaint about SRDOC?

It is recommended that you request to speak to the on-duty supervisor in person or via telephone. In the event the on-duty supervisor is unable to resolve your complaint, please obtain the rank and last name of the person you spoke to prior to contacting the command staff for resolution.

What types of programs are offered to the detainees?

The programs offered to the detainees are designed to reduce recidivism and assist re-entry into the community. Available programs differ but may include: life skills training, GED/High School, CPR/First Aid, Fathers Group, AA, food handler certification and Religious Services.  Programs vary based on population and service providers.

Sending Mail

All incoming detainee mail shall be written on white paper (lined or unlined), sealed in a white envelope written in black or blue ink, and include a return address – letters written in or containing crayon, markers, highlighters, correction fluid, lipstick, stickers, tape, glitter, confetti, wax, foil, glue, chalk, plastic or lamination.  Do not include newspaper or magazine, sticky notes, or instant photos (Polaroids) or stamps. Greeting cards are not allowed. Photos shall be no larger than 4”x 6”.  Paper that is stained or discolored will not be allowed. All mail must have a return address.
