William Daly, Director of Corrections
Director Daly is in his 38th year in the law enforcement field of corrections. Prior to his appointment here at Salt River, he was employed by the New York City Department of Correction at Riker’s Island, one of the largest penal institutions in the world.
He joined the NYC Department of Correction in 1987 working various security levels and assignments. Prior to his retirement at the rank of Captain, he worked numerous facilities and divisions including the Robert N. Davoren Center (formerly ARDC) where approx. 2,200 male detainees (ages 16-18) were housed in modular dormitories, sprung (tent) structures and cells. In addition to general housing area supervision, he was assigned as the facility security Captain responsible for gang activity, emergency evacuation/preparedness and special searches, and later the facility school, where he was responsible for the safety, education, and mandatory attendance of approximately 400-500 inmates to school each day. In 2000, he returned to the department’s transportation division holding assignments as borough supervisor and ultimately becoming the Tour Commander, responsible for the timely delivery and return of over 1,500 inmates per day to various courts within the five boroughs of New York City and upstate NY. He was also responsible for the transport of inmates to/from hospitals, significant family events (such as funerals and sick visits) and state prisons including the use of charter planes and buses. In addition, he assisted and directed tactical corrections-wide deployment of staff and vehicles for internal, as well as external, government city-wide emergencies and events including the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack, the Republican National Convention (RNC), the United Nations World Economic Forum, and various other tactical search operations.
In September of 2007 he was hired by the SRPMIC-DOC as the Assistant Director of Corrections serving and carrying out a multitude of duties mostly related to operations. In January 2009, he was appointed Acting Director for the entire department and ultimately Director in December 2011. He is currently part of the SRPMIC Tribal Emergency Response Commission (TERC) and Crime Abatement Strategy Team, among other SRPMIC committees. He believes in the development of leadership qualities and empowerment of staff at every level of the department including education and management skills.
He is a member of a variety of professional associations including the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA), American Jail Association (AJA), and American Correction Association (ACA), where he holds certifications as Certified Jail Manager (CJM) and Certified Correction Executive (CCE), respectively. He completed the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)/Phoenix Police Department Hostage Negotiation School. He is a graduate of Suffolk Community College, NY (A.S. Criminal Justice), Arizona State University (B.A.), and holds a Certified Public Manager (CPM) certification from Arizona State University, graduate of the Executive Education Management and Leadership Institute and Valley Leadership Institute Class #37.
He is married with two children.
