On September 25 and 26, members of the Salt River Police Department Traffic Enforcement Bureau attended the annual Terry Bennett Memorial Police Motorcycle Training and Competition, hosted by the San Diego County Motor Officers’ Association, in Coronado, California.
More than 50 motor officers from throughout the Southwest and Tijuana, Mexico, tested their skills on cone courses of various patterns, with names such as the “The Snowman,” “Tiger’s Den” and “The Eliminator.” Each rider had to ride at slow and high speeds, utilizing skills needed to safely complete the courses. Each participating motor officer was judged in a timed event to complete the challenging courses.
The Salt River Police Department was represented by Lt. William Peel, Sgt. Louis Lombari, Off. Forrest Wood and Off. Chris Morin. Although the competition was challenging, Motor Officer Wood once again brought home two awards: second place in the Individual category (Kawasaki Division) and first place in the “Slow Ride” (Kawasaki Division).
