The Salt River Police Department (SRPD) Traffic Enforcement Bureau, along with other law-enforcement agencies from around the state and as far away as Kansas, participated in the 19th Annual Southwest Police Motorcycle Training and Competition, held in Phoenix April 17 and 18.
The competition was an excellent opportunity to provide SRPD motor officers with the most current training techniques. This two-day event included a skills course with a variety of exercises, two-man pair riding, four-man team riding, as well as a slow-ride competition. Each of these exercises is designed to enhance the ability of the modern motor officer.
More than 130 motorcycle officers competed, and a highlight of the event was our very own Off. Forest Wood taking first place in the team ride event. Off. Wood, along with other Kawasaki motorcycle officers from the Mesa Police Department and New Mexico, joined up and named their team “The Misfits” due to being from various agencies. SRPD Off. Christopher Morin also put in a good effort, placing in the top five in the BMW class.
The proceeds raised from this event go to the athletes of Special Olympics Arizona through the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
