Ashley Lomavaya
Class: Senior
Tribal affiliation: Hopi, Snake Clan and Sand Clan
Career stats: 1,098 points, 335 assists and 413 steals

How long have you been playing basketball?
I started when I was five years old, at the YMCA. I have a lot of love for the game; I love playing.

What was the highlight of your season?
On my senior night, I scored my career high, 27 points, versus Scottsdale Christian. That was also the same night I scored my 1,000th point in my varsity career.

What was the most challenging part of the 2013-14 season?
The competition was the hardest. [In] some games, we were off and it was hard for us to come back in the first half. Most of the teams were out of our section. At Tuba [City] we played rez teams.

What are your future plans? Are you going to play ball in college?
I’m looking to go to community college first, then get recruited. I’m going to try out for either Scottsdale Community College or Chandler-Gilbert Community College. I’ll be playing in NABI and helping out coaching for the junior high. I want to study nursing or be a pediatrician.

What does this award mean to you?
It feels great!

Any other comments?
It was a great season. Most of the girls I played with over the summer made the transition here to Salt River easier. Coach Lytle and Coach Dion helped us out a lot.
