On Friday, July 25, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Recreation Department hosted a talent show for its Rec-Ed program summer day campers, held at the Salt River Community Building.
Throughout the talent show, many of the campers cheered on their fellow campers to help overcome their stage fright when it was their turn to perform. There was a total of 18 kids who performed in front of the campers and some parents.
The various talents included singing, jump-roping, hula dancing and even hoop dancing. Acts included troop leader Rebecca Daniels, who performed Maroon 5’s “Maps” on her guitar; a troupe of Polynesian dancers, consisting of some of the day campers; Melissa Francisco singing “Summertime Sadness” by Lana Del Rey; and R.J. Lopez performing a hoop dance.
“I liked helping others and playing with friends during the Rec-Ed program,” said Melissa Francisco.
“I enjoyed the dancing,” said Kennise McGertt, who performed with a hula-dancing group.
After the talent show was over, the entire Rec-Ed program summer day campers had sub sandwiches and went to Mesa Golfland-Sunsplash for more fun.
