The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Recreation Department presented the annual Southwest Women’s Basketball Tournament on March 1 and 2 at the Pi-Copa gym.

This year the tournament championship went to team X-Factor, and the Dem Girls team was the runner-up. Team X-Factor won all of their games in the two-day tournament, up to and including the championship game itself. Third place went to the Hotshots, who scored 53 to the Dem Girls’ 63.

Dem Girls lost one game early in the tournament against X-Factor, before meeting that team once more, in the championship game.

This year the tournament was smaller than previous tournaments, with only eight teams. The champions received long-sleeve T-shirts and bags. The Most Valuable Player award went to Tia Morgan, who received a trophy.
