The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s chair volleyball team, the Majestics, won the championship trophy at the Salt River Senior Olympics, which was held in the Community in May. Playing games throughout the afternoon paid off, as the team members played as if they were not tired.

The Gila River Bears, whom the Majestics defeated in the championship at the Salt River Senior Olympics, played them again in the Yuma Quechan Senior Olympics on May 17. In that tournament, the Majestics took home the third-place trophy.

“We have our good days and we have our bad days,” said Ethelene Ray, captain of the Majestics.

There was some controversy about the scoring at the Yuma event. “I feel that they didn’t do us right, but we came home with a trophy, so that’s good,” said Chrysten Osif. “We won two games and lost the third game.”

“We can’t always win first place at every game. The important thing is that we get out there and do it,” said Ray.
