The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Recreation Department’s Social and Athletic programs combine to present the Outdoor Adventures program for children ages 6 to 17. The program offers a schedule of outdoor-based and outdoor-themed recreational activities.

There are two sessions for Outdoor Adventures: the fall session runs from September through November, and the spring session begins in February and ends in April.

During the recent spring session, the youth participated in six activities, including hiking on trails around the Valley, horseback riding and indoor rock climbing. For their last adventure, the group traveled south to Old Tucson Studios, where the youth watched the Old West come alive. They watched actors re-creating exciting shoot-outs and also toured the studio, where more than 300 movies and television shows have been filmed. They also watched some of the Westerns filmed at the studio.

The Outdoor Adventures program was created as an option for youth who do not participate in organized sports but still want to be active outdoors.
