Delbert Ray, Sr. was elected to fill the open District I seat on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Tribal Council on January 26, during a 2012 Special Election. Ray will complete the remainder of the term of office, which expires in December 2014. He will be sworn into office during the February 1 regular Council meeting.

On Election Day, over 700 District I Community members exercised their right to vote. That morning, candidates set up their tents, banners and posters hoping to win votes from enrolled members who were walking inside the Community Building to cast their votes.

Earlier that week, Community members were given the opportunity to listen to candidates during a forum, where they were asked questions on various topics.
Polls closed 6 p.m., and while the votes were tallied, several Community members and all the candidates waited patiently outside the Community Building for the official results.

“I would like to say thank you for your vote of confidence, I will be accountable to my God and the O’odham and Piipaash people,” said Ray on his win. “Please continue to pray for me and the entire executive and legislative branches of our tribal government.”
