The Salt River High School junior varsity football team played host to Chandler Prep on August 31 to open up the 2011–12 season. They lost the opener 38-14.

The Eagles put together a solid pass play early in the first half, but with Salt River sitting at first and 10 on the 45-yard line, the Eagles fumbled the ball. On the first offensive play of the next series for Chandler Prep, they scored a run play up the middle, but they did not convert on the extra point and led 6-0.

In their next series, the Eagles scored on a pass play when quarterback Robert Norris connected with Richard Marez and Xavier Smith scored on the two-point conversion. Norris then scored the second touchdown for the Eagles, but it was not enough to earn the win.
