This year the Summer Sizzle Slow-pitch Softball Tournament was held on June 18 and 19, one month earlier than the usual July tournament. Nine men’s slow-pitch teams came out to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community to play in evening and morning games during the tournament. Both men’s and women’s divisions had been planned, but because not enough women’s teams signed up, the tournament just went along with a men’s division.

The Falcon Punch team was named tournament champions after winning every game from fourth place on to the championship. Team Good Ol’ Boys took runner-up in the game, with a final score of 10-4. The two teams had met the previous night, only with Falcon Punch losing to the Good Ol’ Boys.

In the third-place game, Falcon Punch played the Rez Boys. Falcon Punch was ahead in the first couple of innings, but by the bottom of the fifth, Rez Boys started to catch up and were within reach. Despite the good effort they ended up losing, 14-16. Red Mountain took fourth place in the tournament, losing to Falcon Punch as well, with a score of 14-2.

Teams that placed in the tournament received long-sleeved shirts and the MVP received an ice chest on wheels with “Summer Sizzle Softball Tournament” printed on the front.
