Cactus Classic
At the third Annual Cactus Classic Wrestling Tournament, held December 11 and 12 at Cactus High School in Glendale, Salt River Lady Eagles wrestler Taneasha Thomas went 2-6 over the two days, posting forfeit wins over Wickenburg and Sahuarita. She lost to her opponents from Ironwood, Liberty, Seton Catholic, Bourgade, Flagstaff and Sahuarita.

Hosteen Smith went 4-4. He collected wins over Seton Catholic, Cactus and Wickenburg by pins, and won by a forfeit over Bourgade. Smith’s losses were to Liberty and Ironwood by pin and a point loss to Flagstaff. He later finished that Saturday with a loss to Sahuarita in double-overtime.

Lloyd Lewis finished the tournament with a 7-3 record and placed fourth. He lost by technical fall to Ironwood in the beginning and went on to win seven straight. He pinned all his opponents from Liberty, Cactus, Wickenburg and Sahuarita, and won by forfeit over Flagstaff, Bourgade and Seton Catholic. In the individual medal round, Lewis lost to Williams Field by pin. Going for the third-place medal, he lost to Cienega by pin in the second period.

Deer Valley Invitational
During the Deer Valley Invitational on December 12, Eagle Alex Apodaca claimed first place in the heavyweight class. Blaine Hillis posted a 1-2 record at the meet, while Aaron Rivers posted a 2-2 record.

San Manuel
On December 17, Taneasha Thomas achieved a 2-2 record officially, but in an exhibition wrestling match against a female wrestler from Hayden High, she was able to achieve her first pin of the season. Hosteen Smith achieved a 1-1 record.
Lloyd Lewis pinned three opponents before falling to a Superior High wrestler by pin in his last match.

Miah Shaw made his debut in the heavyweight class. He fell to 0-2, but still has plenty of time to work this season.

Safford Tournament, January 9, 2010
SRHS wrestlers will return to the mat on January 9, 2010 at the Safford Tournament.
