Season’s Greetings to everyone on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. The month of November was a busy one for the School Resource Officer unit (SRO). Among other events, we participated in the Cold Stone Dry Run to raise money for the Salt River Explorers program. We are anxiously awaiting the Christmas holiday and will be participating in a number of events in December too. For example, Salt River Elementary School will be having its monthly fun run on December 18. Parents are welcome to join the kids and run or walk in the event. I hope to see you there.
School Traffic Safety
I want to speak about a matter of great concern to our parents: the number of vehicles speeding on the roads around our schools. Please anticipate that the SRO unit, along with SRPD patrol units and our motorcycle officers conducting traffic enforcement, will be out in force in the areas around Salt River High School, Salt River Elementary School and the Early Childhood Education Center.
Officers will be highly visible to deter speeders in these areas and will issue citations for traffic violations. Please keep this in mind and remind others to watch their speed when driving near the schools.
Christmas Angels and Shop with a Cop
The SRO unit will be at the forefront of planning and participating in the Christmas Angel Program, working with the Christmas Angel Committee to ensure that everything goes as planned. I am also proud to say the Salt River Police Department is again a participant in the Shop with a Cop program. Look for the school resource officers at this event as well; if you see me, Officer Rodney States or Sgt. Norman Wellington, please say hi and feel free to ask questions or voice any concern to us.
On behalf of Sgt. Wellington, Officer States and myself, we all wish everyone a great holiday. Please be safe, enjoy the time with your loved ones and encourage your students to stay sharp during the school break.
Be safe, and always buckle up your children!
