Special Election February 23 - District I (Salt River)

A nomination meeting was held at the Community Building on Monday, February 8 for candidates to run for the vacant seat on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Tribal Council for District I (Salt River). About 55 Community members attended. Some were there to nominate people they felt would be good candidates for the position, while others came to show their support.
The vacancy is due to a recent decision by Council to remove Anthony Collins, Sr. from office. The person elected will serve out the remainder of Collins’ term, until 2012.


SRPMIC Staff Tour Talking Stick Resort

A little over three years ago, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community broke ground on the first phase of construction for the new Talking Stick Resort, which included the enclosed parking garage. The 15-story resort/gaming facility is set to open its doors April 2010.

Two members of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Denise Gonzales and Tina LeCompte, are living proof that hard work and perseverance can overcome any challenge. Both ladies recently completed internships at the Two Waters Café, and afterward were hired on by Aramark, the café’s operator, to continue in their jobs. Here’s how they achieved their goals.


Community Member Business Named Native American Entrepreneur of the Year 2009
