2010 Conference Empowers Family Caregivers

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Family Caregiver Support Program hosted the 2010 Family Caregiver Conference at the Lehi Building on March 25. Community members who care for their elders, grandchildren or other family members attended the event. The theme for the conference was “Empowering Family Caregivers.”


First Things First in Trouble: Could Affect Community’s Child Development Programs

Due to the slow economy and a budget deficit, the State of Arizona has already cut several programs and is looking at eliminating First Things First (FTF), a program designed to provide quality early-childhood development and education for Arizona children up to age 5, so that they are well-prepared to enter kindergarten.


Tribal Member Prepares to Share Her Talent in the Miss Indian World Pageant

Frances McKay, 23, an enrolled member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, is preparing for a major life experience as she gets ready to compete in the Miss Indian World Pageant, which will be held during the 2010 Gathering of Nations Pow Wow April 22–24 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.


Pieces of the Puzzle-New Perspectives on the Hohokam

If you have not yet heard, the Huhugam Ki Museum has a new exhibition that everyone in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community is welcome to see. On Saturday, March 27, the traveling exhibition “Pieces of the Puzzle: A New Perspective on the Hohokam” opened at the museum.
