the best way to gain to appreciation for the lifestyles,
history and culture of the Pima and Maricopa Tribes
is to begin your visit to the community at the Hoo-hoogam
Ki Museum, 10,005 E. Osborn Road.
Hoo-hoogam Ki, meaning "House of the ancestors," describes
the museum, which is constructed of adobe and desert
plants, reflecting the beauty of the Southwest. Inside
you will view exhibits that share our unique heritage,
from the days of the ancient Hohokam to the achievements
of today. Baskets, pottery, photos and other articles
create an understanding of a people who are enriched
by the strength of their ancestors.
If your timing is right, you might see a demonstration
of Pima basketry or Maricopa pottery in progress. For
a special treat, be sure to sample authentic Indian
foods in the outdoor dining area of the museum. Delicious
Indian fry bread is always a popular choice.
