Police Explorer Program
"Our Explorers today are the Leaders and Police Officers of Tomorrow"
Description: Established in 1995, the Salt River Police Department was the first in Indian Country Law Enforcement to begin a Police Explorer Post. The program which instructs youths ranging in ages from 14 to 20 about Police work and commitment within the Community, providing valuable life skills such as self esteem, esprit-de-corps, service, respect, pride, dedication and prepares Community members to become Police Officers within the Salt River Indian Community. Fees (registration, admission, etc.): No registration fee, clean record for admission

S. M. A. R. T. Moves. (Safety Mentoring Alcohol Resistance Training)
Description: Established in 2001, the Salt River Police Department was the first in Indian Country Law Enforcement to begin a SMART Moves program in conjunction with the "Boys and Girls Club". This program is taught at the Community's "Red Mountain Boys and Girls Club", the VA 2 Housing Clubhouse and within our schools by the Police Department. SMART Moves provides education, real-life answers and instruction to students on "how to stay clear" from drugs, alcohol, substance abuse and gangs. Police Officers must attend an 80-hour block of instruction from certified sources, to be certified and instruct this valuable tool.

Child ID Program
Description: The Salt River Police Department, at every major Community function and upon request take a "Polaroid" photograph of a child, providing the photograph and a document carrier to the parents in case their child is lost or abducted. Citizen Police Academy
"Teaching How We Deliver: Service, Respect, Pride and Dedication"
Description: Established in 2003, the Salt River Police Department's eight weeks of training to adult students provides a curriculum for a deeper understanding of Police operations and how the community and Police can work better together as partners to reduce crime and improve the quality of life, covering important topics as: Constitutional law, Tribal, State and Federal law, Police Department ethics, mission, policies and procedures, communications, traffic accident investigation, search and seizure, use-of-force, crime scene investigations, narcotics, K-9 and firearms simulation training.

Description: Established in 1990, the Salt River Police Department provides education in the prevention and detection of crimes and has expanded to five neighborhoods which act as the "eyes and ears" of those areas in the Community for the Police Department.

Community United in Finding Fugitives (C.U.F.F. - CRIME STOPPERS PROGRAM)
Description: Established in 1994, the Salt River Police Department was the first in Indian Country Law Enforcement to begin a CRIME STOPPERS PROGRAM. The program allows individuals with information about any unsolved crime to call the program 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, remain anonymous and receive cash rewards of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest or conviction of persons who have committed a crime. Since inception, several homicides, narcotics and trafficking cases have been solved. We don't need your name – we only need your information. It only takes one call to CUFF: 1-800-713-2833
