Mission Statement and Goals

Mission Statement

The mission of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Department of Corrections, is to hold pretrial and sentenced inmates for the Community Court. The Department will comply with tribal code, other relevant laws and the Bureau of Indian Affairs standards for operation of adult and juvenile detention facilities through training, education, and deep community involvement, the department will foster unity and leadership in rehabilitative programs that will help deter crime and improve the quality of life in the community. The department will maintain acceptable standards of incarceration; while preserving the safety, security and order of the institution, and demonstrating a true commitment to the public safety of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the surrounding cities.

Goals

  1. To enhance the safety of the community, SRDOC Officers/employees, and residents.
  2. To gain public trust through openness and responsiveness with particular recognition of crime victims and their families.
  3. To reduce the risk that residents will re-offend.
  4. To operate responsible correctional programs which emphasize resident accountability and productivity.
  5. To provide work and program opportunities emphasizing personal responsibility and respect for all residents.
