River Pima-Maricopa Community School District
Salt River Pima Maricopa Community School District is
located in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona and is surrounded
by the metropolitan cities of Mesa, Tempe and Fountain
Hills. Our school district consists of Salt River High
School (7-12), Salt River Elementary School (K-6) and
the Early Childhood Education Center. We are a GROWING
District that provides our staff with on-going professional
development opportunities and excellent employee recognition
programs.
Salt River High School (SRHS)
Salt River High School (SRHS) a charter school opened
in August 2004. SRHS receives funding from the State
of Arizona, federal grants and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa
Indian Community. Currently, SRHS has 300 students in
attendance, but has the opportunity to educate 525 students
on its award winning campus. Students are recognized
for their accomplishments in a variety of ways, including
quarterly award luncheons, an annual awards banquet,
and annual athletic banquet. Parents and Community members
are encouraged to join in celebrating their children’s
success.
An enhanced curriculum of Native American arts, cultural
studies, basket weaving and beadwork are among many
of the courses offered. The School sponsors football,
baseball, basketball, cheerleading, softball, volleyball,
wrestling, golf, band, orchestra, yearbook, video, creative
writing, consumer science and social events such as
Dances, Pep Rallies and a magnificent Prom gathering.
Salt River Elementary School (SRES)
Salt River Elementary School (SRES) provides a well-rounded
curriculum to ensure that all students are receiving
excellent educational opportunities. Our curriculum
consists of the Harcourt-Brace Reading program, Houghton
Mifflin Math Curriculum, and FOSS (Full Option Science
System) program.
An outstanding feature of our curriculum is the Culture/Language
program where students are taught the language and culture
of the O’Odham. The students are taught traditional
songs by the O’Odham/Piipaash Language program.
Salt River Elementary also provides special classes
such as PE, computer, library and music. Students with
special needs are provided extra help through our Special
Education program and the Gifted program provides educational
opportunities for students who excel in the areas of
academics, creativity and leadership.
Plans to construct a new Elementary school by 2010
are well underway.
