Safety Day: Building a Safer Community

Dozens of families visited the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Fall Festival, held at the Salt River Community Building on October 20.

The Halloween theme was in evidence as many food vendors and game booths were set up in the parking lot. Festivities included a game-show segment and a costume contest for children and adults. Toward the end of the night, a “Minute to Win It” game took place; one game was a “dizzy mummy” competition and the other was a marshmallow and vampire teeth competition.

As the sun started to set, a flash mob surprised the crowd by performing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance routine. The Recreation Department also hosted a gigantic haunted house—it started in the Community Building, extended up to the Recreation Department and came back down into the Pi-Copa Gym.

At the end of the festival, the costume contest winners were announced. The winners received gift cards.
