The Salt River High School cafeteria was packed with about 100 people, including many parents and supporters of the student athletes.

Brandon Tauscher, Salt River Schools athletic director, emceed the banquet, which included dinner and time for the sports coaches to say a few words about their respective teams.

Salt River offers football, junior high flag football, volleyball, junior high volleyball, and high school and junior high cross country in the fall. Winter sports include boys and girls varsity and junior varsity basketball and wrestling. Boys basketball and wrestling have junior high teams. Individual MVP, Most Improved and Eagle trophies were awarded by each team.

Tauscher had some fun with the date, which the Star Wars fans in attendance recognized as Star Wars Day, a.k.a. “May the 4th Be With You.” He gave out free movie tickets to young students who knew Star Wars trivia. The dinner also followed the Star Wars theme, featuring Cantina chicken, Padawan potatoes, Leia Organa salad, Hans dinner rolls, Boba Fett fruit cups and Luke Skywater.

The event lasted about two hours.
