Arizona Author Visits Salt River Schools

Engaged Salt River Elementary School students participate in author Barbara Gowan's discussion. Gowan (standing) visited the school on April 26.

The walls inside Salt River Elementary School reflected images of the Arizona desert in April thanks to student artwork celebrating author Barbara Gowan.

Gowan visited the school on April 26 and held four 30-minute presentations in the library for the students. She is the author of multiple nonfiction children’s books with Arizona themes, like the Grand Canyon. One of her popular books is titled D Is for Desert: A World Deserts Alphabet, a science book featuring geography and animals of the world’s desert regions.

Students used their artwork to welcome Gowan to the school. Posted on school hallway walls were batches of student drawings depicting versions of Gowan’s book covers.
