A group of youth in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community recently helped the Social Programs Division of the SRPMIC Recreation Department present a Super Kids Club event, and for their efforts they were rewarded with a visit to a Phoenix Suns game.

The group helped with the Valentines ’50s Dance Night, which was held on February 10 starting at 6 p.m. at the Community Building. The members of the Super Kids Club dressed up and danced to music from the 1950s, played by a DJ. Games, dinner and photos rounded out the fun.

The teen volunteers helped run games, serve the food, and set up and clean up for the event. After everything was cleaned up, the group traveled to downtown Phoenix and watched the Suns beat the Chicago Bulls 115-97.

The goal of the Super Kids Club is to provide adaptive social and recreational opportunities to children with special needs who otherwise may be unable to participate in SRPMIC Recreation activities. A new event is scheduled every month; for more information on the Super Kids Club, call the SRPMIC Recreation Department at (480) 362-6360.
