SRPMIC Rings In New Year With Celebration
The aromas of kettle corn and other goodies danced in the air as dozens of youngsters and those young at heart took advantage of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration and rung in 2017.
The December 31 celebration included midway rides, a chicken scratch dance, game trucks, laser tag, a midnight balloon drop and a fireworks show. Hundreds of Community members attended the event, which started at 4 p.m.
This year’s theme was “Neon Night,” and the celebration was held at the Salt River Community Building.
A $5 wristband got visitors unlimited rides, which included carnival favorites the Ferris wheel and Tilt-A-Whirl, and about a dozen others. There was also a handful of kiddie rides for the little ones. Rides were set up in the building’s parking lot.
The chicken scratch dance was held in the gym, where the balloon drop took place. Before the dance, a DJ played party music.
Kettle corn, caramel apples, popcorn, cotton candy and other traditional carnival favorites were available for purchase, and menudo, frybread and other non-traditional carnival foods were also available.Click here to view photo gallery.
