Salt River Schools Highlight STEAM Night

Students learn about "CSI Salt River," a STEAM station that focused on biological technology.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics (STEAM)—and how these disciplines all come together in learning—was celebrated with a special event at Salt River High School in January.

The school hosted its first-ever STEAM Night on January 24, with 10 stations set up. Educators led the stations, which ranged from math and computer coding to Indigenous seeds and vegetables. Students and family members attended the two-hour event. Besides learning about STEAM concepts, students who visited three stations were entered in a raffle to win a tablet.

“Tonight we saw some content connection and how [these disciplines] are related to each other,” SRHS Principal Jon Gentile said in a brief presentation. “When you went around tonight, hopefully you saw some of [that]. You saw contents come together. It wasn’t just science, it wasn’t just math.”

Salt River Elementary School will host a STEAM Night on April 25.
