Way of Life Facility Topping-Out Ceremony

Contractors, sub-contractors, and staff who will be housed in the Way of Life Facility gathered to sign and watch the last steel beam be placed into the facility on January 27.

On Friday, January 27, a beam-signing and topping-out ceremony took place at the new Way of Life Facility at the corner of Indian School Road and Center Street. Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community members and visitors gathered to sign and watch the last steel beam be placed into the facility, which is due to open in December 2017.

“We were all here back in July for the groundbreaking, and look at what we have now. It’s really amazing how far we have come in a short period of time,” said David Dallas, president of MayDall Construction. “It’s a combined effort with SRPMIC Engineering and Construction Services, Public Works, MayDall Construction, Brown and Associates, A-Tek, our subcontractors and our Community-member-owned businesses—we all worked together as a team on this. The communication flow has been expedient, and as a result, we have what you see here today.”

Community members and visitors took turns signing the beam, and then it was lifted off. The crowd cheered as the construction workers hoisted the steel beam into place.

“This is the topping-out of the last piece of steel. We’re moving along quite well and we’re right on schedule. We plan on finishing in winter 2017,” added Dallas.

The 119,000-square-foot, two-story structure will house office and classroom space, indoor gyms, a natatorium with a waterslide, an indoor running track, fitness space and a full-service kitchen with a dining area.
