Phoenix Suns Forward Marquese Chriss Visits Salt River
“Be Active, Eat Healthy and Play Together!”
On March 8, Phoenix Suns rookie forward Marquese Chriss led a National Basketball Association (NBA) FIT clinic at the Salt River High School gymnasium. Approximately 100 youth took part.
The NBA FIT program encourages youth to be healthy athletes. The messages include swapping snacks or junk food for healthier alternatives, drinking more water, and incorporating physical activity into their daily lives.
Also in attendance were Phoenix Suns Community Ambassador and NBA alumnus Steven Hunter, Suns broadcaster Tim Leander, the Solar Squad and the Suns Gorilla mascot.
The youngsters divided into age groups to enjoy one-on-one time with a Phoenix Suns representative, working out and practicing basketball skills. Youth enjoyed nearly two hours of working out like a pro.
“[The camp] was a lot of fun. I really just want to motivate kids to have fun and play basketball,” said Chriss. “Come out and support, laugh, shoot a basketball and have fun.”
