Beeline Pit Stop to Open Winter 2016 in Community
The new Beeline Pit Stop is expected to start taking form this month, with an opening date pegged for winter 2016.
The new Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community convenience store is located at the northeast corner of McDowell Road and Beeline Highway (State Route 87). The store replaces JR’s Convenience Store, which closed its doors in early September.
Renovation and site upgrades to the area are expected to start this month.
Beeline Pit Stop will not only serve as a convenience store, it will also include a gas station and drive-through tobacco sales.
The SRPMIC Tribal Council noted in its August 31 meeting that this new business venture along the McDowell and Beeline corridor is a step forward for future developments, with potential to expand.
In a letter expressing the Community’s appreciation to JR’s and announcing the construction of the new store, SRPMIC Vice-President Martin Harvier said, “With this economic growth, there will also be job opportunities available for Community members.”
For a list of job opportunities, check the SRPMIC job postings at www.srpmic-nsn.gov or visit the SRPMIC Human Resources office, 10005 E. Osborn Road.
The store’s name pays homage to the area’s landmarks, like Beeline Dragway, a racing strip that was active in the 1960s and early ’70s. Community member Kyle Dallas designed the store’s logo, which reflects the old dragway but with a more fierce bumblebee with black stripes and tires.
