Salt River Cross Country Teams Complete Season

The Salt River High School cross country teams finished the 2016 season with a solid showing at the Canyon Athletic Association Cross Country Championships on November 5 at the Tres Rios Golf Course in Goodyear.

Freshman Sabin Miguel finished the 3.1-mile race in eighth place, with a time of 18:52.6. For the girls division, freshman Ki-Ana Loring finished 12th with a time of 24:51.4. Both teams finished in fifth place.

“All the boys finished with personal bests in the race, and the girls ran really well Saturday,” coach Kino Reed said. “The program overall has made improvement and the top runners on both sides are very young, so we have a lot to look forward to in future years.”

Freshman Joaquin Suniga finished the boys race 11th overall (18:56.4), while sophomore Jacob Schurz (20:00.5) and senior Denton Miguel (20:05.2) finished 28th and 29th, respectively.

For the girls, freshman Kiona Sumral finished 20th (26:54.1), while fellow freshman Jolee Miguel finished 28th (30:54.6) and junior Alyssa Begay finished 29th (31:08.2).
