Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Celebrates 137th Birthday

gallery-01Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community members celebrated another anniversary of the legal formation of the Community.

The June 11 celebration marked the Community’s 137th birthday and included a packed day of activities at the Two Waters Complex. The anniversary was celebrated on a Saturday, three days before the official birthday on Tuesday, June 14.

Estrada Captures Miss Salt River Crown

gallery-02 Annalisa Estrada is the new Miss Salt River. The 17-year-old was crowned Miss Salt River 2016-17 at the 28th Annual Miss Salt River Pageant on June 11 at Talking Stick Resort. Estrada beat out Monah Fredrick and runner-up Ariana Leonard.

Sialik King Crowned Jr. Miss Salt River 2016-17

gallery-03On Friday, June 10, four young women from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community competed in the 24th Annual Jr. Miss Salt River pageant at the Talking Stick Resort Grand Ballroom. With poise and confidence in being an ambassador for her community, Sialik King earned the new title of Jr. Miss Salt River 2016-17.

Native Youth Identity Conference a Success

gallery-04On June 10, more than 100 Native American youth from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and other Arizona Native communities participated in the third annual Native Youth Identity Conference. The free conference was presented by SRPMIC Youth Services and took place at the Community Building along North Longmore Road.
