4th of July Celebration

gallery-01The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community celebrated Independence Day at the Salt River High School Football field the evening of July 4. The festivities began at 6:30 p.m. and included various forms of family entertainment and live music by “Living on the Ledge.” A free hot dog meal was provided to guests and a fireworks show after sunset.

D-Backs Inter-Tribal Youth Baseball and Softball Tournament

gallery-02 Despite the triple-digit heat, Native American youth ages 9 to 19 gathered to compete in the 18th Annual Arizona Diamondbacks Inter-Tribal Youth Baseball and Softball Tournament, which took place June 8-11 at various locations around the Valley, including within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community as well as at the Luis Gonzales (Tempe Beach Park) and Matt Mantei (Clark Park) baseball fields located in Tempe.

2016 ALA Graduation

gallery-03Nineteen students at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Accelerated Learning Academy (ALA) received their high school diplomas at a graduation program held on June 29 at the Community Building. Community member Edwin Bully Wood sang the national anthem; Pamela Mott, treasurer of the Fort McDowell Tribal Council, gave the benediction and confirmation. ALA Administrator Mary Ann Wood offered opening remarks, encouraging students to never doubt themselves and to remember that anything is possible.
