The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community had a busy weekend ringing in the Christmas spirit with several events on Saturday, December 10. That evening, 23 groups marched in the annual Holiday Light Parade, which traveled down Longmore Road from the Salt River Community Building to the Two Waters Complex.

Salt River Royalty, Community members, dance groups, church organizations and SRPMIC departments had floats decorated with Christmas lights and music or walked the 1.5-mile route handing out candy and spreading the Christmas spirit to onlookers, who sat on the sides of the road.

The Red Mountain Riders led the parade in their motorcycles.

This year the parade’s Grand Marshal was Community member and 2016 Indian Rodeo Champion Heeler Ty Romo. Earlier in the week, Romo competed in the World Series of Team Roping in Las Vegas, Nev. Romo also is a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association and travels across the country competing in rodeos.
