Salt River Fire Department Fire Chief Daryl Dash and other top firefighters were honored at the SRFD 2016 Awards Banquet at Casino Arizona on July 25.

Eight firefighters received awards, two new firefighters were sworn in, and a few others received special recognition (see sidebar).

“This year has been a wonderful year; it’s been a great year for the fire department,” Dash said. “I want to thank everyone who supported the fire department.”

Dash, who was named fire chief earlier this year, received a standing ovation as he was officially sworn in. Dash’s young daughter pinned a fire chief badge onto his jacket in front of dozens of people, including her dad’s fellow firefighters.

Dash, a 28-year SRFD veteran, is the first Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member to serve as fire chief.

“It’s been a terrific run,” he said. “I’m honored and humbled to have been selected for this position.”
