SRPMIC Plays Huge Role in Arizona Rattlers Season Finale!

At the final Arizona Rattlers regular-season game on Saturday, August 8, at Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix, groups from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community took part in a number of activities to support the team and enhance the event. The energy from the more than 12,000 fans who attended the game against the Portland Thunder was evident throughout the game and during the pregame and halftime activities.

“Everyone thinks golf is expensive, out of their range, or more of a higher-class [sport]—that’s what really keeps people away,” said Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) professional Jason Montoya, who works toward breaking down golf stereotypes for Native youth.

According to the American College of Sports Medicine, one in three children in the United States is overweight or obese. The problem with childhood obesity is that it puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
