Since September, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Recreation Department has been hosting a youth soccer league at the Salt River Recreation Football Field. The league attracted 15 teams of players ages 4 to 12. Kids gathered every Tuesday and Thursday evening at the field to learn more about the sport of soccer while having fun.

This year, there were seven teams in the 4- to 7-year-old division: Salt River Lil Tykes (coach Sandy Hicks), Salt River Lil Monsters (coach Niso Osif), Lehi Sun Devils (coach Emma Martinez), Salt River Happy Feet (coach Mike Douglas), Salt River Midgets (coach David Willis), Fort McDowell Ninjas (coach Camille Tsingine) and Salt River Recreation (coaches Antonio Andrews and Luiz Lopez-Rocha).

The 8- to 12-year-old division had eight teams: Fort McDowell Fireballs (coach Camille Tsingine), Salt River Thunda (coach Niso Osif), VAII Stallions (coach Karina Watson), Beeliners (coach Ron Paul), Salt River Tornadoes (coach Sandy Hicks), Salt River United (coach David Willis), Salt River Fresh Rez Kids (coach PJ Fulwilder) and Salt River Recreation (coaches Antonio Andrews and Luiz Lopez-Rocha).
