Police Explorers Assist Police Rangers on Memorial Day Weekend

Submitted by Detective Vicente Cendejas
Salt River Police Department

Salt River Police Explorers assisted the Salt River Police Department Rangers at the “A-Frame” during the very busy weekend of Memorial Day.

The Explorers had a chance to meet with the SRPD Rangers and learn about the various responsibilities that are required of them as law enforcement officers and back country specialists. The Rangers have a unique job requirement of being able to enforce State, Tribal and Federal law all while being able to keep their bearing and be prepared for whatever the wilderness may throw at them.

The Explorers had a chance to ride with the Officers and Rangers as they completed security checks around the various fishing/swimming holes of the Verde and Salt River. It was on the ride-a-longs that the Explorers observed the boundaries of the SRP-MIC and Maricopa County as they looked across the Salt River and saw the Tonto National Forest Phon D Sutton Recreation Area filled to capacity.

SRPD Explorers assisted the Rangers with checking in over 60 vehicles and over 100 people while on this assignment. They also were able to grill hamburgers and carne asada and experienced the wide open range at the river. The SRPD Explorers all said they look forward to assisting the Rangers next year.
