Jacoby Ellsbury Hosts Nike N7 Baseball Camp

Youth from 13 tribal communities including the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community attended the 2015 Nike N7 Jacoby Ellsbury Baseball Camp at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on January 10. Youth from elementary through high school got to learn hands-on baseball techniques with Ellsbury and trainers and staff from the MLB Arizona Diamondbacks, who conducted the baseball clinic. Ellsbury, who is one of the ambassadors for the Nike N7 sports program for American Indian youth, currently plays center field for the New York Yankees.

 

Phoenix Suns’ Tyler Ennis Hosts Basketball Clinic

The Phoenix Suns and Casino Arizona hosted a basketball clinic featuring Phoenix Suns guard Tyler Ennis and broadcaster Tom Leander on January 15 at Salt River High School. Every season, Casino Arizona and the Phoenix Suns join forces to host this event for youth of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and children of tribal employees. About 40 youngsters and their family members attended.

 

SRPMIC Council Receives Signed Phoenix Mercury Jersey

  On Wednesday, January 7, at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Tribal Council meeting held at the Council chambers, Phoenix Mercury Executive Vice President/CFO Jim Pitman presented the Community with a signed Diana Taurasi jersey.

Rugby: It's More Than Just a Sport, It's a Family

  Have you heard of the Salt River Defenders rugby team? Some might have learned about the team through word of mouth, past Tribal Council meetings, or perhaps through social networking. Regardless of where you heard it, this is the first rugby team led by a tribal member here within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and also in Arizona, if you want to get specific.
