Arizona Governorís Office grants will help Salt River Police keep roads safer

The Salt River Police Department is proud to announce the acceptance of enforcement funds awarded to the agency from the Governorís Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), which is committed to enhancing traffic safety.

The Governorís Office of Highway Safety remains dedicated to the safety of the motoring public and awards grants to agencies around the state for traffic enforcement, equipment, and supplies. GOHS has awarded Salt River PD approximately $83,465 in grants for Fiscal Year 2016 (10/01/15 Ė 09/30/16). The money will be used to enforce DUI, seatbelt, speeding, and other laws designed to increase safety on the roadways.

A DUI enforcement grant was awarded in the amount of $50,000 and a STEP enforcement (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) grant was awarded in the amount of $10,000. The Salt River Police will use the money to deploy additional and specialty officers on the roadway throughout the year. These officers will be deployed during holidays, local special events, and during heavy traffic times. Salt River PD will also take part in East Valley Holiday DUI Task Force and on-going saturation patrols that have been planned in conjunction with surrounding agencies.

SRPD was also fortunate to be awarded $7,165 for a Drug Detection instrument to improve DUI-Drug field screening process and $16,300 for a Speed Trailer to enhance Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.

ďOn behalf of The Salt River Police Department and the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community I would like to sincerely thank the Governorís Office of Highway Safety for its continuing dedication to traffic safety and for helping our department keep its Community members, visitors and employees safe.Ē Chief Patrick R. Melvin.
