6th Annual Men’s and Women’s Gathering

gallery-01From July 21 through July 23, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Life Enhancement and Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N.) hosted the sixth annual Men and Women’s Gathering at the Talking Stick Resort. Approximately 270 registered attendees participated in this national conference, some traveling from as far away as San Francisco, California.

8th Annual Piipaash Language Gathering

gallery-02On July 28, the Cultural Resources Department’s O’odham Piipaash Language Program (OPLP) hosted the eighth annual gathering of people from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) and the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) to bring together all the Piipaash speakers from both communities. It was a time to celebrate their accomplishments and efforts of working together in their struggle to maintain their language.

O’odham Piipaash Language Program (OPLP) Fashion Show

gallery-03The O’odham Piipaash Language Program (OPLP) held a fashion show on July 29 to shine a spotlight on the finished outfits designed by students of the two O’odham and Piipaash dress-making and sewing classes. The event was held in the main classroom at the Cultural Resources Department (CRD), which was re-purposed and designed to create an atmosphere to highlight the presentations of the various outfits made by the students.

YES Academy Encourages Young Entrepreneurs

gallery-03From July 19 to July 25, the Salt River Financial Services Institution (SRFSI) Youth Entrepreneurship Summer Academy (YES) sponsored 20 youth from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community to participate in a five-day business camp at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. The students were exposed to the college lifestyle while being tasked to create their own business plans, with hopes of one day becoming young entrepreneurs.
