YRPC Hosts Dinner for Youth Peace Ambassadors Conference

gallery-01The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Young River People’s Council and the Youth Services Department hosted the Youth Peace Ambassadors Conference Dinner at the Salt River Community Building on the evening of August 22. The conference was held August 21-28 at the Holiday Inn Express of North Scottsdale and SRPMIC, presented by the American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN), which is located on the Community.


The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Comes to the Community

gallery-02With people around the world taking the Ice Bucket Challenge, one member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community called out SRPMIC Chief of Police Patrick Melvin to take the challenge a few weeks ago.
In the spirit of charity and fun, Melvin accepted the challenge from Community member Teresa Hill by plunging into an ice-filled swimming pool for the 100 Club of Arizona.


WIC Breastfeeding Week

gallery-03During the first week of August every year, World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in more than 120 countries. During the week of August 4-8, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Women, Infant and Children (WIC) and Diabetes programs teamed up to show their support for breastfeeding, hosting a variety of events for women, children and families.



SRHS Composers Showcase Their Talents in Concert


gallery-04On Monday, August 25, five Salt River High School students participated in a world premiere concert at the Scottsdale Community College Performing Arts Center. This concert gathered family, friends, faculty and the Community for a night of music and new sound provided by the young, talented Native American composers and ETHEL, a New York–based string quartet.
