Contest Award Two SRPMIC Students

Two Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member students currently attending Scottsdale Community College (SCC) have discovered a way to balance becoming young adults while expressing their creative voices simultaneously. Both were first-place winners in the Native American Voices category in this year’s SCC Vortex Creative Writing & Art Competition.

Liftoff Science Carnival Night at
Salt River Elementary School

On the evening of April 28, the Salt River Elementary School (SRES) and the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) held their second annual Liftoff Science Carnival, also known as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Family Night, at the elementary school. Families came to the carnival to experience the science of flight. Science games and craft tables were set up throughout the basketball court and playgrounds of the school.

 

Community Artist Dwayne Manuel Featured in University of Arizona School of Art’s
MFA Thesis Exhibition

Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member Dwayne Manuel is completing his master of fine arts degree (MFA) at the University of Arizona this semester. Along with 10 other MFA candidates, Manuel is showing his artwork in a thesis exhibition at the University of Arizona Museum of Art and the Joseph Gross Gallery.

 

Spring Prevention Conference Unites Community

On Tuesday, April 29, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Department of Health and Human Services Prevention and Intervention Program hosted a Spring Prevention Conference at the Marriott Courtyard Salt River in Scottsdale. This conference focused on suicide prevention and coping with grief and separation.
