On September 20 and 21, Salt River Police Department (SRPD) Traffic Enforcement Bureau (TEB) Officers Christopher Morin, Forest Wood, Kenneth Kelly, and James Southard attended the 2013 Terry Bennett Memorial Police Motorcycle Training and Competition in San Diego. The competition’s primary purpose to raise money for charity and to educate the public of the contribution of the motorcycle officers in keeping the peace and providing for public safety. The competition featured many of the top riders from around the Southwest (California, Mexico, and Arizona) to practice a challenging cone course, exchange training ideas and techniques, and compete for honors.

Officer Kelly was the competition and SRPD’s top rider placing first in the Kawasaki class and even earning the “Best Crash” award. Officers Wood placed third in the same class behind Mexico’s Tijuana Police Department.

This event not only increased these Officers riding skills that ultimately makes them a safer rider, but put SRPD Motor Officers/Unit on the map with other Southwest law enforcement agencies and raised public awareness of our department’s commitment to excellence.
