Community Day Celebration 2014

This year the Community celebrated 135 years of being a sovereign nation on the evening of June 14, at the Two Waters Complex. Many Community members, guests from sister tribes and visitors celebrated the annual “Community Day” celebration which featured a Reflections of Honor Wall unveiling, traditional dance group performances and dinner which was catered by the Round House Cafe.

A tribute to the visionaries who shared wisdom and gave selfless service for the betterment of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community were honored June 12, a few days before the SRPMIC Community Day on June 14.


 

First Annual Native Youth Conference: ‘Knowing our History & Identity to Strengthen our Future’

On Friday, June 6 the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community hosted the first annual Native Youth Conference at the Phoenix Marriott Mesa in Mesa, AZ. This conference was free to all Native youth ages 13 to 18 years old. Through the various sessions, group discussions and guest speakers, conference participants were able to learn about the history of SRPMIC which in return would help them to learn their identities as Native Americans.

 

Lone Butte Trade Center to Open July 2014

The grand opening of the new Lone Butte Trade Center will be held Saturday July 12, at 1188 S. 56th St. in Chandler, Ariz. next to the Lone Butte Casino. Community member and owner of the On Auk Mor Trade Centers David Montiel and co-owner of the Gila River locations Sterling Thomas (Gila River) will be celebrating the opening of their fourth convenience store/smoke shop.
