This year’s Fourth of July celebrations took place at the Salt River High School football field in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community on Friday evening, July 4. Over 500 Community members, families and friends celebrated together and made this year a year to remember!

Members of the Young River People’s Council—President Kaily Toney, Clerical Secretary Ramon Lopez, Jacob Willeford, Pretty Flower Galindo and Joli Lewis—traveled to Portland, Oregon, June 28–July 3 for the biggest gathering of Native American youth in the country, the United National Indian Tribal Youth (UNITY) conference.

 

SRFD VS. SRPD Basketball Game Raises Money for Cabrera Family

On June 28, Salt River Fire Department (SRFD) and the Salt River Police Department (SRPD) competed in a family, fun exhibition match at the Salt River High School. Both SRFD and SRPD agreed to compete in the matchup to help raise money for the family of the slain officer, Jair Cabrera, who was shot and killed while on duty.
