The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community New Year’s Eve Family Celebration 2014 took place at the parking lot of the Salt River Gym on December 31 from 4 p.m. until midnight. A festive array of carnival midway rides, game booths and food vendors lit up the scene and brought families together for a fun-filled evening. There were activities for every age category, which made this evening one to remember.
Wristbands went on sale starting December 13, with roughly 400 sold that day alone. Approximately 2,000 wristbands were sold for this event at $5 each. The wristbands allow for unlimited rides all night.
Those in attendance enjoyed music by DJ Fendrick and DJ PsychoPat from 101.1 the Beat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and chicken scratch music and dancing by Valenzuela and Friends was scheduled from 8 p.m. until midnight, both inside the gym. At midnight, fireworks lit up the sky over Salt River, signifying the start of 2014.
The annual New Year’s Eve Family Celebration is supported by the SRPMIC Tribal Council and the Community Relations Department, whose staff works to make it a success every year.
